YOU

A smile speaks no language..
A sorrow speaks just one..
Tears in eyes speaks few..
Joy is always shared..
Sorrow is personal..
The glow in eyes speaks volumes..
Success shows strength gained..
Failure shows extent of strength you could stand..
Memories makes you young while you grow old..
love is eternal and has power to ignite an ice..
Sleep is bliss and without you are cursed..
And my dear with you near, rest of above are mere fiction...

A Wish I Wish

A wish, I wish to swim in a rain drop falling from sky
A Wish, I wish to cuddle up inside a flower when it blossoms
A wish, I wish to hide inside the water droplets bouncing merrily from a fall
A wish, I wish to walk on the rainbow
A wish, I wish to cozy up on a snow flake gently gliding down from sky
A wish, I wish to float on that thick dark cloud
A wish, I wish to hover on a musical note
A wish, I wish to raise above the ground from a searing geyser
A wish, I wish to climb up a water fall
A wish, I wish to see the world through a baby's eyes
A Wish, I wish to sit on a withered leaf falling to ground from a tallest tree
A Wish, I wish to see the world from a dead man's eyes
A wish, I wish to gently swim with the ripples formed on the water
A wish, I wish to stand up on the giant waves of an ocean
A wish, I wish to glide on a birds wings
A wish, I wish to travel with the light
A wish, I wish to ascend up a rainfall
A wish, I wish to walk on my shadow

Dreams Limited!!! Dream of a Chennaivasi

A Fiction...

Sunday 11.43 PM, I was driving along the cooum shores on beach road, Madras. It was late I had to get back home and go to bed soon as I had this big meeting tomorrow. I was riding on my good old bike at a comfortable speed. At this stretch few street lights need new fuse. I was cursing the corporation for making the lives of chennaivasis a living hell. I hardly could hold my breath due to the stinking river running along side. Whoever thought to make this once beautiful river into a life size sewer should be shot to death, I thought.
It was dark; I saw some strange creature on my way and swerved my bike only to hit a buffalo trying to ease off in the middle of the road. Next thing I was slipping down the slopes leading into cooum with the intensity of smell from the river of sewer increasing every second. I remember hitting this big rock which in a way helped me from slipping into cooum. A flock of mosquitoes tried to suck the blood out of me and insects unknown to mankind crawled on me. Everything around me was fading and I was falling unconscio….
I could feel gentle cool breeze with the sweet autumn aroma in the air with sounds of birds chirping. I felt something real cold on my face and woke up to find my right cheek wet from few rain drops dripping away from the leaves of this tree above me. I am sitting on an ocean-blue colored bench under the tree and having a catnap. I stood up to see to a distant all these huge trees in order with leaves dancing for the tunes of the pleasant afternoon sea breeze of Chennai.
I could see young kids running around and playing and giggling and old reading newspaper and seems to enjoy the beautiful afternoon. A jogger running along stopped in front of me breathing heavily and had this smile on her face, I was surprised and quickly noticed that I was standing on her way on this long jogging trail. She started jogging immediately after I moved away from her way. The smile, I thought, to thank me for letting her rest for a few seconds. I turned to check if I haven’t missed anything, I saw lush green lawn running downhill.
I walked few steps downhill on the lawn and saw clear water river flowing down all the way at the end of the green lawn. I walked few more steps down hill and saw the vibrant cooum with crystal clear water flowing with extra vigor with waves sailing along the wind path and water brushing with enthusiasm along the side concrete flood walls. I walked all the way down and stood on the flood walls and looked down the river, I saw varieties of fish swimming around in ecstasy as if they were home after long time. The green pasture running along the cooum shores extended to the length of the river it appeared as if there is no end to it.
As I was walking up the hill, I heard a loud sound of horn. I looked back and saw a ferry passing by with kids and others waving their hands at me. The water splashed the side walls as the ferry passed and at the back it read Cooum river sight seeing. I never took that ferry before, I thought, and walked up the hill. At a distant people were in line and trying to get into a boat one after other. I walked up to it; I saw a ferry, serving the route Beach to AnnaNagar. Times changed, I thought, I bought a ticket to AnnaNagar at the ticket counter and got into the ferry. It was a 75 seat ferry with few of them standing to enjoy the view of cooum. I stood for a while to enjoy the view with rest of them. It was a beautiful evening, cooum was so clean and pure I could see reflection of amber colored evening sky in the cooum waters; I could also see reflections of passing snow white clouds. It was picture perfect. Most of them on the boat looked happy, as if their dreams came true, that also includes me.
While enjoying the beauty of cooum and nature, I was lucky to get a window seat. The cool breeze from cooum was blowing on my face and I felt as if I was inhaling the most untainted air in the whole wide world. I couldn’t resist I started to catch a few ‘z’s again. Suddenly, I woke up to this strong aroma of roses. We were approaching a ferry stop called ‘Roja Thottam’ (Rose garden). There was this huge rose garden along the shores of cooum with varieties of colored roses. This is a tourist spot as it was crowded with people trying to get a glimpse of their favorite rose. As the ferry started to cruise again, I glanced at my adjacent passenger’s newspaper. I was trying to catch up with what was going on around the world. Particular news caught up my interest, it read, Chennai Tourism revenues quadrupled. I felt proud to be a citizen of Chennai.
At a distance a small shiny crystal appeared midst of the trees and disappeared. The color of this shining crystal changed every time it appeared. Crystal seemed to grow as we cruised down the Cooum River. As we approached a turn the crystal I was watching slowly transformed into a huge fountain with colored lights dancing to a beautiful tune. I was dumbfounded at this spectacular scenery. The fountain stood in the middle of a park surrounded with sculptured trees. The ground was hard to find as it was covered with carpet like green lawn. I saw kids playing in a play area filled with swings, slides and see-saws. At the entrance there was this statue portraying our soldiers with our national flag flying high. It was a moment to salute our great heroes and park was aptly named ‘Sudhandhira Poonga’ (Freedom Park). Ferry stopped for few minutes, lot of passengers got down at this spot as this is one of the most favored spot for visitors. I haven’t seen these many tourists, I thought as the ferry cruised in the effervescent cooum river.
As we cruised I heard this beautiful song from yesteryears,
‘Ithu oru ponn maalai pozhudhu…’ being played in a mellow volume on a cd player of a passenger. It was a perfect evening, the sun at utmost splendor with its evening gown of big red ball of fire setting on west horizon, a melodious song in the background, cool breeze and soothing aroma from the cooum forced me capture the image and I shut my eyes for few minutes to cherish the moment. When I opened my eyes the scene was even more grandeur. An array of lights all along the shores of cooum greeted the sun set. With the waves dancing to the wind and water splashing away from the ferry, the reflection of lights on the splashing cooum waters seemed as if flowers were being showered to welcome the night. It was breathtaking.
Next stop was a major junction; there I saw ferries lined up to transport passengers to their destinations. That explains why the Chennai road traffic is so smooth and buses commuter friendly. While wondering, all of a sudden night sky lit up with fireworks. I have never seen such a fireworks display before in my life. It felt as if hundreds of comets were shooting up in the sky. Fireworks included varieties of colored sparklers and volleys of red to white glitters with whistles and crackling stars bursting up in the sky. The spectacle doubled its effect with the beautiful reflection on cooum waters. As I was enjoying the fireworks, the whole area lit up with brightness from this cruise boat decorated with hundreds of decorative lights. I saw people waving with sparklers in their hands as the boat was cruising by, I heard someone announcing, Chennai Tourism proud to introduce cooum to Mahabalipuram cruise. I couldn’t resist clapping and shouting in enthusiasm. This is one fun filled cruise to take, I thought.
We were settling down as our ferry begun cruising. I saw people enjoying their evenings sitting on the green lawn along the cooum course; some were even having a small picnic and dinner parties under the lights laid throughout the cooum course. Air was pure, no mosquitoes to share food, no insects to greet, it was perfect for people to enjoy the evenings after days hardship. The moment was relaxing and peaceful.
My stop had come and bid goodbye to my fellow passengers who continued their trip. I watched ferry leave; it carried a name, “Cooum Kanavu” (Cooum dream) on its rear end. I walked back looking at cooum river and listening to the flow of water. I bumped my head on to a signboard and fell down on the ground. The board read ‘Litter free zone. No dumping. Fine Rs.2000 if violated’. This brought smile on my face. Pain was severe, I was bleeding and things around me started to fade. I was unconci…
I felt as if someone poured a bucket full of water on my face. I was still in pain. I stood up holding a rusted pole. It was raining and I was completely wet. My legs felt heavy and could hardly move. Whole area surrounding me was dark with pungent rotten smell. I could hear flies and mosquitoes buzzing around my ear with occasional pinch on my cheeks. Suddenly, a burst of flash light lit up the area and someone yelled, Are you ok, we are coming down to help you. The sight I saw was terrifying. There was filth and sewage everywhere. I was caught in knee deep of slimy and big blob like sewer. I looked up and I saw two men in front of me covered in space suits and masks around their face spraying disinfectant and pain killers on me. As they lifted me up, I read sign on the rusted pole I was holding, it read, Cooum River. Things never changed, I thought, I wished I could dream longer.
